Last Post of the Year (2022)!
Just some reflection of my year in publishing, along with the results of my latest (and biggest) sale.
I'm not going to do an "author unwrapped" thing, though it does sound fun in theory. No, I need to keep it short, as I have a lot of things to do today. We recently moved and need to have our apartment cleaned out by the end of the day.
I'm doing most of that on my own, as my partner doesn't get off until 4. I may have help from her cousin before then, but I mostly need help moving furniture.
Anyway, I did a lot of cool things this year. I published 8 stories on Kindle Vella, completed a few, and published one—Fluid Bonding. I also published a novella and another novel, and most recently, a short Christmas story. You can find the full list in the Books link above.
This was a pretty big year for me, as it was the first time I actually published a book, and really dipped my toe into indie publishing as a whole. And I...had quite a bit of success. Nothing to stop searching for a day job over, but enough to help pay rent and other expenses. This is mostly possible thanks to the generous bonuses from Kindle Vella.
As of today, I've sold over 261 books, mostly through Amazon, 40 through other channels (mainly Smashwords). Though to be fair, I sold less than 80 books on Amazon until the big I Heart Sapphfic end of the year sale. I sold 130 in that one week; surprisingly, Fluid Bonding was overwhelmingly popular.
I honestly expected to sell far less, as I've seen commonly reflected on Reddit, but it helps tremendously that I write romance. We'll see how those numbers change when I publish more general books in the future. I've been itching to write more sci-fi, for example. Always sapphic, of course!
